Gender Affirming Care

Compassionate, inclusive care tailored to your gender journey.

Healthy Futures provides Gender Affirming Care (GAC). Gender affirming care uses a multidisciplinary approach to help a person transition from their assigned gender – the one the person was designated at birth – to their affirmed gender – the gender by which one wants to be known.

Our providers support transgender and non-binary individuals to navigate through their gender journey meeting them where they are and working with them to meet their goals. Transition looks different for each person.

Our goal is to help your outward traits match your gender identity. We offer hormone therapy with estrogen or testosterone, PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV) and Post-exposure prophylaxis for other STIs, other adjunctive medications, referrals for surgery, and referrals for other non-surgical treatments.

What is the role of the providers at Healthy Futures?

Hormone Therapy

Patients can receive hormone therapy to increase their levels of estrogen or testosterone so that they develop sex characteristics more closely aligned with their gender identity.

These include more hair growth and increased muscle mass for those transitioning to a more masculine presentation, and breast development and testicular atrophy for those transitioning to a more feminine presentation.

Hormone therapy involves receiving a regular dose of testosterone or estrogen to bring about desired changes to your secondary sex characteristics.

The goal of hormone therapy is usually to raise someone’s hormone level to the average level of that hormone found in cis-gendered people. The physical changes that come with hormone therapy can be irreversible and our providers will discuss the risks of hormone therapy.

Our providers will work with you to check the appropriate labs and monitor your levels while using hormone therapy to make sure it is done safely.
